Kayaking in Sardinia

The beautiful islands of Capri and Sardinia are wonderful places to kick back and relax, but what if you are feeling a little more adventurous? The following are our top tips for exploring in style.

Capo Coda Cavallo in Sardinia
Grotta Verde in Capri

Snorkeling

Both Capri and Sardinia are famous throughout the world for their glittering turquoise waters and marine life, and this natural beauty can best be appreciated by taking a snorkeling trip. In Capri, the waters around Grotta Verde are particularly rewarding for snorkelers, with rare fish and sea creatures to be found around the smaller grottos. If you are worried about the safety aspect of going it alone, there are regular organized boat trips out of Marina Grande. In Sardinia you can go to the beautiful beaches such as Capo Coda Cavallo or Spiaggia Del Principe which are readily accessible for independent snorkeling.

Kayaking

As both islands are surrounded by the relatively tranquil Mediterranean, a quick kayaking trip is the perfect way to experience their coastal splendor. In Capri, many kayakers take on the small grottos that are dotted around the coastline, with rentals available from Marina Piccola, whereas in Sardinia the appeal is mainly in exploring deserted beaches and islets that would otherwise be inaccessible. There’s even a chance that you’ll see Dolphins on your travels, which is reason enough in itself to make it worthwhile!

Trekking

Both Capri and Sardinia are known for their extraordinary geology, with each offering a number of scenic coastal paths and hills to explore. On a cooler day, there is nothing more breathtaking than taking on the winding path of Via Krupp in Capri, or exploring the Bidderosa Oasis in Sardinia which is open from May to October and is the ideal destination for a hike to the beach with five coves to choose from. The only thing you’ll have to worry about is stopping too often to take photographs of the stunning scenery!
