Zermatt, a charming alpine village nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, offers an unforgettable experience to those who venture here. As one of the world’s premier ski resorts, Zermatt attracts skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts from all corners of the globe. This picturesque mountain town offers a unique blend of natural beauty, extraordinary cuisine, and luxurious accommodations. For those who are new to Zermatt, here are some captivating facts about this remarkable destination.
The Iconic Matterhorn
The majestic pyramid-like Matterhorn, standing tall at 4,478 meters, is not only Europe’s most recognizable peak but also the symbol of Switzerland. It takes center stage in this glamorous village, where life revolves around this impressive mountain. Did you know that the Matterhorn is the most photographed mountain in the world? Its striking and unmistakable silhouette captivates all who visit. To witness the Matterhorn and its surrounding peaks and glaciers from the perfect angle, we recommend the breathtaking views from the Gornergrat or the Klein Matterhorn.
Highest Swiss Mountain Resort
Zermatt holds the prestigious title of being the highest Swiss mountain resort, nestled at an impressive 3,804 meters. With its extensive lift infrastructure and the highest viewing platform in the Alps, perched at 3,883 meters, Zermatt offers an unparalleled alpine experience. The ski region boasts 54 mountain railways and lifts, providing access to a vast network of 360 kilometers of pistes in these distinct ski areas: the Sunnegga-Rothorn, Gornergrat-Stockhorn, Schwarzsee and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. Excitingly, new lifts are being introduced for the winter of 2023-2024, including the 3S gondola lift, which links Testa Grigia on the Italian border with Switzerland and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise on Klein Matterhorn. This connection, known as the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing, seamlessly links Cervinia and Zermatt without the need to ski. Another addition to the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing system is the new cable car from Zermatt village to Furri, set to open at the end of 2023.
Tip: For an unforgettable lunch at altitude, don’t miss the family-run Chez Vrony at 2100 meters, where they have embodied a family tradition for over 100 years. And, for your apres-ski enjoyment, Cervo, located conveniently at the base of the piste, offers live music, a beautiful terrace, exclusive DJ sets, and a delightful array of drinks, all set against the backdrop of the stunning Matterhorn.

Zermatt has earned the well-deserved title of the heli-skiing capital of Europe. Air Zermatt, renowned for providing transport and rescue services in the Zermatt-Matterhorn region, also offers thrilling adventures such as heli-skiing and sightseeing flights around the Matterhorn.
