Greek cuisine on the islands often centers around local produce and fish from the sea prepared simply but deliciously. You can find many casual restaurants offering authentic Greek cuisine but, for a special evening, there are also fine dining restaurants where guests can enjoy artfully prepared food in beautiful surroundings. The following five restaurants are at the top of our list for best dining options in Mykonos Town.
M-Eating
M-eating is a farm to table restaurant offering Mediterranean cuisine. Situated in a traditional Mykonos home with a walled terrace, the restaurant is warm and inviting. Owned by chef Panagiotis Menardos and his partner Sylvie, the dishes that arrive on the table are imaginatively plated works of art presenting such delicacies as quail, octopus, squid, sea urchin and sea bass as well as rib eye steaks and seasonal vegetables.
Avra
There is something magical about dining al fresco in a beautiful garden and Avra (“breeze”) offers one of the most enchanting spots on the island to indulge in an evening of delicious food enhanced by showers of bougainvillea, soft lighting and warm service. The food is traditional Greek like tzatziki, houmous, moussaka and saganaki although the restaurant also prepares international dishes such as chateaubriand and chicken curry. The owner and head chef, Nikko, and his partner, Sarah, make every guest feel welcome.
Kalita
Kalita bar and bistro is designed with a contemporary flair. Simply yet elegantly furnished, the restaurant and bar invite guests to savor a cocktail and enjoy dinner in a palm filled courtyard. The kitchen is headed by chef Vaios Ntoytsias who delivers delicious plates of classic Greek dishes with a modern twist. Accompanied by a friendly, courteous staff and a magical ambience, dining here is a delight.
Kastros
For stunning sea views, delicious food and a great staff, it’s hard to beat Kastros, a charming restaurant located in Little Venice. With a balcony hanging over the sea and sea views from almost every table in the interior, you’ll find yourself torn between admiring the view and savoring the food. With a bit of a “nouveau” twist, the chef offers unusual and exciting dishes such as umbrine (a local fish), lobster with truffle sauce, sea bass ceviche as well as many other dishes, some traditional Greek, all delectable.
Eva’s Garden
Eva’s Garden serves traditional Greek food such as spanakopita, tzatziki and dolmades in a setting reminiscent of a Greek family home. As the name suggests, the tables are set under a canopy of grape leaves with pots of flowers creating splashes of color against the white washed walls. The staff is personable and efficient. The food is scrumptious. What more can a restaurant offer?
Each of these restaurants has their own unique ambience and culinary approach to traditional Greek cuisine and each is worth at least one visit during your holiday in Mykonos.
