Cannes may be famous for its annual Film Festival held every May, but there’s much more to Cannes than celebrity sightings, yachts and sandy beaches. The city has an array of fantastic restaurants from trendy local restaurants to upscale gourmet dining. If you’re looking to spend an evening in, these are some of the best specialty shops with culinary delights including delicious local cheeses and other delicacies ranging from seafood and wine to scrumptious pastries.

The pedestrian street, Rue Meynadier, is full of shops offering mouthwatering pastries, cheeses, meats, seafood and other delicacies. Since 1968, Fromagerie Céneri Cannes, a family-run business that has been passed down for three generations, remains as one of the best cheese shops in Cannes and it is impossible to just look at the shelves of fabulous French cheeses without entering the store to purchase several varieties for a picnic or a beautiful cheese course. Of course you must have wine with cheese and the following are three of the more discerning wine shops in Cannes. 1862 Wines & Spirits is so named because it was established in 1862 making it the oldest wine and spirit cellar in town. With a wide selection of wines and helpful personnel, customers will be sure to find what they need in this store. Cave Riviera Cannes is another wine cellar where you can find an extensive list of wines that you can carry home. At Aperitiv Cannes, in addition to your favorite alcoholic and soft drinks, you can also find charcuterie, cheese, olives, antipasti and more for the perfect aperitif at home.

Among the many bakeries in Cannes, be sure to visit Boulangerie de la Californie where you will find excellent croissants, a variety of other pastries as well as the traditional French breads. Le Saint Antoine, another bakery and pastry shop in Le Suquet, the old town of Cannes, offers a variety of beautiful cakes, macarons, breads as well as salads and sandwiches at lunch time.

The Marché Forville is a covered food market also located near Le Suquet. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 7:30am to 1pm. This market offers local specialties, such as socca and tapenade, as well as some of the freshest vegetables, seafood, meats, cheeses, flowers and more. You can’t go wrong if you choose to shop here for a special meal or a tasting tour of the market.

There are many more shops that offer delicious food products but you should plan on visiting these specialty spots for a true Cannes culinary experience.
