Forte dei Marmi is a chic resort town just south of the Italian Riviera, known for its beaches and pine forest scenery against the backdrop of the Apuan Alps. During summer, beach clubs open along the sandy foreshore of the Tyrrhenian Sea to while away a day under the Tuscan sun. Here are some of the best.

Dalmazia Beach Club

Dalmazia dates back to the early 1950s, and though it has been modernized, it still carries old-world beach club charm with its 44 beach gazebos, rows of sun chairs and chestnut wood sunbeds. Cabanas are hired for private use with the season running from April until October, when you can enjoy all its facilities. From Dalmazia Restaurant, set over three spacious verandas in a Mediterranean garden, which offers fresh Italian cuisine. To Egoista Spa, a 400m2 wellness oasis with a Finnish sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, and six rooms dedicated to the most innovative beauty treatments.

Alpemare Beach Club

A private beach with personalised 24/7 concierge service, Alpemare is owned by the Bocelli Family (of the famed singer Andrea Bocelli). It was completely renovated from an old bathing club and transformed into a relaxing oasis surrounded by a magical pine forest where guests can enjoy a professional massage within the pines. 48 beautiful, draped cabanas are complete with a personal safe, USB chargers and shower courtesy kits. Chef Mirko Caldino creates Mediterranean cuisine served in an al fresco restaurant. And there is even a private driver for guest transfers to and from the beach club to their homes or to reach nearby places of interest.

Gilda Beach Club

The scene at Gilda is typically beach chic: white-washed walls, wood furniture, elegant orchids and greenery hanging from corners and typical white gazebos line the beach. Private cabins and gazebos are available to rent, come with wait service and Wifi. Gilda’s restaurant offers seafood dishes prepared by a professional chef within its beachside dining room or al fresco setting, ensuring your experience is as delicious as beach blissful. Open from April until September.

Annetta is the perfect place to relax, swim and enjoy the natural beauty of the Tuscan coast. The club has a private beach with fine golden sand and a restaurant on the terrace overlooking the waters offering exclusive dining with Tuscan flavours and a fresh seafood menu that perfectly complements its surroundings. Family-friendly, there are plenty of activities for kids, from diving lessons and paddle boards to playing in the swimming pool or dancing at their mini disco.

Bagno Roma di Levante

One of the most popular beach clubs in Forte dei Marmi due to its proximity to the town’s main attractions, Bagno Roma di Levante is vast and known for its bright yellow sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent, under gazebos beside a wooden walkway that leads to the beach. A mosaic swimming pool with an adjoining hydromassage area, showers and changing rooms, a seafood restaurant, and secure parking are also part of the complex. Open from May to September.

Augustus Beach Club

A chic beachside oasis, Augustus Beach Club is nestled between the sea of Forte dei Marmi and surrounded by mature pine trees. Between splashing in its swimming pool and diving into the Tyrrhenian Sea, sunbathe in a private gazebo, one of 74 lined up along the fine sands. Relax over a long lunch at Bambaissa Restaurant or the Bamba Chill Garden on a menu of creative fish cuisine: the Gran Crudo di Mare is a selection of fresh seafood including squid, red prawns, cod carpaccio, amberjack tartare, oysters and Oscietra caviar, a sign of the heavy sea catch that’s available with a sprinkling of local Tuscan meat dishes. Or stay for a romantic dinner, with sunset cocktails first at the Lounge Bar, open all day for your morning coffee through to your afternoon aperitif.
